ZAO Control Center for Underfloor Heating

The central module for zone-by-zone heating automation: 8 zone channels, a 16A relay for the circulation pump and a dry contact for the boiler. Industrial 5V DC relays, protected by RC snubber circuits on every 230V contact, for stable operation even under inductive loads.

Why the ZAO Control Center

The muscle of zone-by-zone automation

10 relays, protected against inductive loads

The ZAO Control Center for Underfloor Heating drives 8 underfloor heating zones, a circulation pump and a dry contact for the boiler at the same time — 10 industrial 5V DC relays on a single board. The pump and the boiler's relay coil are inductive loads: every switch produces a voltage spike that erodes the contacts over time. An RC snubber circuit on every 230V contact absorbs that spike, so the automation stays stable for years, not just the first month.

Every zone, a separate endpoint in Home Assistant

Zigbee 3.0 connectivity on an ESP32-C6 with native USB-C — direct integration into Home Assistant via ZHA, no proprietary gateway and no mandatory cloud. Every zone channel appears as an individual on/off endpoint, controllable on its own or through your own automations: for example, starting the pump conditioned on the state of any active underfloor heating zone.

Electrical safety designed in, not bolted on

Powered by an industrial-grade Mean Well supply, and the whole board follows electrical safety design principles per EN 60664-1 — correct creepage and clearance distances, with firm isolation between the 230V area and the low-voltage control electronics driving the automation.

For homes with real zone-by-zone heating

Ideal for underfloor heating automation in homes with multiple zones, boilers with multiple circuits, or renovations where you want granular per-room control — without expensive proprietary solutions or a monthly subscription for a function the board handles locally anyway.

Questions about the ZAO Control Center

What to know before you buy

How many underfloor heating zones can it control at once?

8 independent underfloor heating zones, plus a dedicated 16A relay for the circulation pump and a dry contact for the boiler — 10 relays in total on a single board. Each zone independently switches the thermostatic actuator on the floor manifold.

Why does RC snubber protection matter?

The circulation pump and the boiler's relay coil are inductive loads — every switch generates a voltage spike that can erode the relay contacts and cause electromagnetic interference over time. The RC snubber circuit on every 230V contact absorbs that spike, for stable long-term operation.

Does it work with just Home Assistant, without the rest of the ZAO ecosystem?

Yes. Every channel appears as an individual on/off endpoint via ZHA, controllable directly from Home Assistant or through your own automations. ZAO thermostats aren't required, but they add per-zone temperature readings to the automation.

Is an electrician required for installation?

Yes. Wiring the 10 relays (8 zones, 16A pump, boiler contact) involves working with 230V and must be done by a certified electrician, per the board's EN 60664-1 safety design.
